Parents invited to Kindergarten RoundupsKindergarten Roundups are happening at 22 district locations in April. Parents of incoming kindergarteners are encouraged to attend the event at their neighborhood school to learn more about starting their child in kindergarten.Enrollment can be completed at the school or online.To enroll in kindergarten, a child should be turning 5 by Dec. 1 and must live in the district.Kindergarten Roundup details
Orientations for parents and students set for incoming sixth and ninth gradesStudents and parents who will be starting at a district middle or high school next school year are invited to attend orientation at their school.Orientations run in April and May at a dozen schools across the district. These events are a great way to introduce students and parents to their future school, learn more about the school day and expectations, and hear about ways to get involved at your future school.Middle and high school orientations

Virtual K-12This online only school accepts students from across Wayne County. District teachers provide daily instruction to students.A special get-to-know-us event is set for April 4 at 11 a.m. via Zoom.VK-12 websiteHowe MontessoriHowe Montessori and Center Based Education is taking applications until April 1 for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.  This free school is available only to in-district students.Howe SchoolAttendance areasUnless they are admitted to a special program, students are assigned to a school based on where they live.  Use the attendance map to find your neighborhood’s school.Attendance area maps
Young 5sYoung 5s Kindergarten is for students who turn 5 years old between June 15 and Dec. 1 and could use another year to prepare for kindergarten. The free, all-day program is offered at six schools to all eligible district students.Young 5sGSRPThe Great Start Readiness Program is a state-sponsored preschool that is free to families. Most families now can qualify as the state moves towards universal preschool.  Enrollment starts April 25.GSRPSTEM Middle SchoolSTEM Middle School is a magnet school for high-achieving students.  District students are invited to attend the program based on fifth grade test results.Invitations are expected to go out April 30. STEM criteria
March is Reading MonthMarch is one of our favorite times of the year in elementary schools because March is Reading Month!During the month, schools hold special activities and invite in special guest readers – from classroom parents to local celebrities. Student art show opens on April 1
The Dearborn Public Schools City Wide Art Show returns to the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center from April 1 to May 3.An opening reception is set for April 1 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Student art demonstrations will be held on April 12 from noon to 2 p.m. and April 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.For those who cannot make the opening reception, the Padzieski Art Gallery in the Center is open Wednesday to Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
 Sign up by March 20 for Summer Discovery
Parents interested in sending their child to the free Summer Discovery Program are encouraged to sign them up by March 20.Students enrolled by that date are guaranteed a spot in the program.  Late registrations will be accepted if space is available.Summer Discovery is for current kindergarten through eighth grade students.Parents can enroll through their child’s school.Summer Discover info
Last Chatting with the Superintendent for this year set for March 20
The last Chatting with the Superintendent for this school year is set for March 20 at 6 p.m. at Edsel Ford High.All are welcome! These informal events are a great way to learn more about what is happening in the district and to ask questions of Superintendent Malyeko and other administrators.
District Spelling Bee brings students together

Hanaa Faraj receives a gift as she is recognized as the Administrative Employee of the Month.Employee of the MonthCongratulations to our Administrative Employee of the Month Hanaa Faraj.Ms. Faraj is principal at Geer Park Elementary School.  She was selected for recognition after being nominated by a coworker.  (She is on the left in the picture.)
