Dear Miller Summer Discovery Families,
We are so excited to see the summer school students on Monday, June 23rd! Here is some important information that the staff and I wanted to share with you:
- Before School Tutoring begins at 8:00 a.m. sharp. This was an option for parents to sign up their child during the registration time only. We are no longer accepting new tutoring/enrichment students as schedules and staff have already been completed. Thank you for your understanding. On Monday morning, the parapros and I will meet the tutoring/enrichment students in the café at 8:00. Our wonderful noon hour supervisors will guide them to the café upon arrival. Note: Students who signed up for tutoring/enrichment will not ride the bus before or after school.
- At 8:30, breakfast opens for all students. If your child is in tutoring/enrichment, he/she will walk to the café. If your child is not in tutoring/enrichment and would like breakfast, please send him/her to Miller for breakfast between 8:30 – 8:55.
- 8:50 is line up for all students. At 8:55, the teachers begin walking the students inside to their classrooms. 9:00 is when instruction begins.
- Busing: Please read:
Kindergarten – 4th grade: Students will follow bus/walk schedules the same as the regular school year.
Note: Bussers will not be picked up for tutoring/enrichment before or after school. This was communicated with all parents during our registration processes.
5th grade students – Please note: 5th grade students will ride/walk to Woodworth, per Woodworth bussing and walk areas. We will also have a bus to take 5th grade students from Miller to Woodworth, as many live outside of the Woodworth attendance area.
- Instruction is from 9:00 a.m. – 3:20, Monday – Friday. There is no early release, as this is summer school.
- Students in summer school will experience the following: 90 minutes of Math instruction daily, 90 minutes of ELA instruction daily, Science, Hype Enrichment, Gardening, Art, iReady practice for Math and ELA, and much, much more.
- It is important that your child attends summer school, every day on time. Please do your best to make sure your child is on time to school and is also picked up promptly after school and/or after tutoring/enrichment time. Please note: If your child Is in tutoring/enrichment sessions after school and they are left after school, two times, (meaning that they get picked up late 2 times), he/she will not be able to attend after school tutoring anymore. We do not have staff to stay past 4:00. All parapros leave at 4:00 sharp! Thank you for your understanding and planning, in advance.
- The teachers for summer school include: Ms. Mroue, Ms. Abukhetala, Ms. Mohamed, Ms. Abdulla, Ms. Aljahmi, Ms. Kazan, Ms. Almaamar, Mr. Winkel, Ms. Wahab and our summer school special area art teacher, Ms. Noel, our summer school gardening special area teacher, Ms. Millhouse and our Hype Enrichment teacher, Saivion Shaver.
- Classroom teachers will communicate families through Class Dojo, as they do during the regular school year. I will be sending messages on their Class Dojo’s and/or through Mass Emails as well.
- Our Summer School Secretary IV is from Fordson High School and her name is Ms. Fatima Bazzi. She begins at Miller on Monday. Our regular office staff is not working summer school. FYI.
- All teachers will be sending home a welcome letter and behavior contract with all of the students on Monday. Please review these two documents and return the behavior contract -signed, please. Thank you in advance.
- Lastly, all students will take pre- and post- assessments as part of the summer school program this summer. It is important that students are in school on Tuesday, as this is when the pre-assessment will be given. Other: Surveys will be given to students in grades 2-4th during the first week of school as well. Teachers have to input the pre-assessment scores on Friday, so that is why it is important that all students are in school beginning on Monday and are in school every day. Thank you in advance.
